Summary

A full‑day, hands‑on ultrasound workshop focusing on the use of POCUS in maternal and obstetric emergencies. Participants rotate through small‑group skills stations with supervised scanning on live human models and phantom models. Core skills include lung ultrasound, focused cardiac ultrasound, assessment of normal and abnormal cardiac function, non‑invasive haemodynamic assessment (CVP and stroke volume), ultrasound‑guided resuscitation, and ultrasound‑guided vascular access and CVP placement. Practical, image‑based mini‑lectures prepare delegates for immediate hands‑on application, with emphasis on real‑time clinical decision‑making in critically ill obstetric patients.

Programme

HANDS-ON SKILLS STATIONS

All delegates rotate through five stations in small groups. Each rotation is 40 minutes.

Lung ultrasound – Normal lung patterns and pathological findings (oedema, effusion, pneumothorax)

Focused cardiac ultrasound 1 (LV views and function) – Parasternal views and recognition of normal vs abnormal function

Focused cardiac ultrasound 2 – (Apical views)

Ultrasound-guided resuscitation –  Rapid visual assessment with emphasis on non-invasive CVP assessment, contractility and stroke-volume evaluation

Ultrasound-guided vascular access and CVP placement – Vessel identification and needle guidance using phantom models
